The historic Sobrado da Cidade in downtown Rio de Janeiro hosts another edition of “Jazz and Choro at the Sobrado” on November 15 and 16. The project combines live music, fine cuisine, and cultural heritage for a unique weekend experience.
Amy Winehouse tribute
On Saturday (15), the venue presents “Jazz at the Sobrado: Amy Winehouse Special”, a tribute show led by Argentine singer Brenda Jackson, accompanied by Juancho Huenulef (bass), Adrián Barbet (guitar), and Roberto Rutigliano (drums). The repertoire includes Back to Black, Valerie, and Hear Me Talkin’, along with a nod to Brazilian music with Dori Caymmi’s O Cantador.
The performance runs from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., with free entry and a R$15 cover charge. Chef Alice Isha curates the day’s menu, featuring Grilled Filet Mignon with traditional sides (R$84). Guests can also enjoy signature cocktails like the refreshing Morango (R$30), made with strawberry, mint, and hibiscus syrup.
Sunday choro
On Sunday (16), the program features the beloved “Chorinho at the Sobrado”, celebrating classic Brazilian instrumental music. The suggested dish of the day is the Manoel Teixeira Serpa — a seafood moqueca served with rice, farofa, and chili sauce (R$92 per person).
Historic atmosphere
Housed in an 1865 mansion listed as a historic landmark, the Sobrado preserves original features such as Dutch tiles and a 23-meter wall made with whale oil. Once a warehouse and hotel, it now stands as a vibrant cultural and gastronomic hub in the heart of Rio.
