Leading the Festa Preciosa, Marcela Silva builds safe and empowering spaces for women in Bahia’s cultural scene.
In Bahia, entrepreneur and cultural manager Marcela Silva has gained prominence by creating safe, economically sustainable spaces for lesbian women. Through Festa Preciosa, she has redefined Salvador’s nightlife with a focus on diversity, inclusion and representation.
According to IBGE data, lesbian women represent about 0.9% of Brazil’s female population but remain underrepresented in cultural policies. To address this, Marcela combined her skills in management and cultural production to fill the gaps left by the traditional market. “We work in a niche with almost no support. Preciosa was born to place women at the center and change this reality,” she says.
With nearly a decade in the music industry, Marcela is recognized for her commitment to diversity. Born in Inhambupe, she has created projects that uplift women, Black artists and LGBTQIAPN+ talents. Her collaborations include artists like Melly, Duquesa, Cinara and Zai — figures shaping Brazil’s new MPB generation.
Her experience led to the creation of Festa Preciosa in 2022, a project designed as a welcoming, safe and professional space for women and lesbian audiences across Brazil. “The event has become a meeting point for those seeking joy and belonging. It values female artists and strengthens Bahia’s creative economy,” says Marcela.
Each edition attracts diverse audiences and boosts professionals from the music and backstage industries. For Marcela, such initiatives drive real change. “Preciosa represents the right of lesbian women to leisure, art and the collective creation of affective spaces,” she emphasizes.
The 5th edition takes place on December 13 at the Rooftop of Clube Espanhol, featuring performances by Márcia Castro, DJ Libre Ana and the band SAMBAIANA. The event continues to grow, positioning Salvador as a hub for lesbian and female representation.
Created during Lesbian Visibility Month, Preciosa now moves toward a new phase. “Our goal is to transform it into a full festival in 2026, with educational and multicultural programming to expand its social impact,” says Marcela.
Beyond the Preciosa, Marcela has worked on major local events such as Feat Festival, Palco Brisa during Carnival, Virada Salvador and the Spring Festival. She also collaborates with Saltur on projects for the City of Salvador. “My work is about creating opportunities and proving that women, Black artists and LGBTQIAPN+ performers belong at the forefront. Preciosa is about inspiration and transformation,” she concludes.
