Maurício Einhorn joins a quartet this Saturday (Jan 24) at Jazz no Sobrado, blending jazz standards and Cartola in downtown Rio.
This weekend, Jazz no Sobrado welcomes one of Brazil’s most respected musicians for an intimate afternoon set at Sobrado da Cidade, the historic townhouse at Rua do Rosário, 34, in the heart of downtown Rio. The performance runs from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm and highlights the project’s signature idea: where jazz conversation meets Brazilian songcraft.
On stage, Einhorn is joined by Vanessa Rodrigues (keyboards), Adrian Barbet (bass) and Roberto Rutigliano (drums). Together, the quartet leans into live interplay—an up-close dynamic that has helped Jazz no Sobrado become a weekly favorite for locals and visitors exploring Rio’s historic center.
The setlist moves naturally between two traditions. It includes jazz standards such as Here’s That Rainy Day and iconic Brazilian repertoire like As Rosas Não Falam by Cartola, delivered with careful phrasing and space for improvisation.
Held weekly, the series stands out for mixing jazz, Brazilian music and Latin rhythms in a room where the musicians’ dialogue is part of the show. In the middle of summer holidays, the venue’s invitation is simple: slow down, enjoy the house menu, and let the afternoon unfold to great music in a warm, familiar setting.
Beyond the concert, Sobrado da Cidade doubles down on its “music and dining” identity. The kitchen is led by chef Alice Isha, shaping the atmosphere for long lunches that feel more like cultural gatherings than regular weekend meals.
Programming continues on Sunday, Jan 25, with the venue’s traditional Roda de Chorinho. The repertoire revisits beloved works by Pixinguinha, Jacob do Bandolim, Waldir Azevedo and Chiquinha Gonzaga, turning lunch into an affectionate, immersive celebration of one of Brazil’s defining genres.
Set inside a historic house, Sobrado da Cidade has become a reference point for combining music, culture and gastronomy—making Saturday and Sunday lunches a full experience, and reaffirming downtown Rio as a major cultural hub.
