Thousands hit Barra da Tijuca beach Sunday as Friends Band kicks off street carnival defending pets, with fitness queen and Beija-Flor drums fueling the party.
Party with a pet purpose
The Friends Band launches Southwest Zone street carnival on February 1st. Crowds parade along Barra da Tijuca beach. The theme “Friends Band hugs animals” spotlights pet protection.
Fitness muse and pet lover Letícia Guimarães reigns over the event. She marks 20 years in carnival. “This carnival started wonderfully boosting animal causes”, she says.
We prepare a big party every year. This one stands out, with everyone embracing the theme.
Animal activist Luciano Guerreiro is godfather. President Fábio Campos vows an unforgettable bash.
Star-studded samba lineup
The show blends samba, costumes and social message. Stars feature Beija-Flor Battery, Vila Isabel Musical Old Guard, Bruno Ribas, Andrezinho do Molejo and Gerson Dupand. DJ Jr Félix and Vallet keep the beats going.
