“O Pardal no Peito” opens Feb 21 at Dobra/ArtNova: Paulo Amorim’s paintings take over Fábrica Bhering through March 7.
Dobra/ArtNova Gallery at Fábrica Bhering presents O Pardal no Peito, a new exhibition by Paulo Amorim, opening on February 21, 2026. Admission is free, and the show runs through March 7, aligning with Bhering’s March Circuito Interno.
The exhibition brings together paintings marked by the artist’s distinctive linework and personal imagery, a visual language that feels unmistakably his. Curated by Bruno Castaing, the presentation highlights Amorim’s singular way of building scenes and symbols.
From comics to poetry to mathematics
Born in Lisbon in 1978, Paulo Amorim has been making comics since age nine. Awarded in Portugal, he published the graphic novel “Todos os passos serão como o começo dos passos” in 2001.
He attended the Painting BA at Lisbon’s Faculty of Fine Arts—though, as he notes, he never actually picked up a paintbrush there. In 1998, he shifted toward Mathematics, earning a PhD from Université Paris 6 in 2008.
His work also extends into literature: two of his poems were selected for the 2015 “Anuário de Poesia de Autores Não Publicados” by Assírio e Alvim (Portugal). He has lived in Rio de Janeiro since 2013, where he works as a university professor and mathematics researcher.
