Revelers will have free access to sunscreen, biodegradable glitter, and mist sprays at over 60 Rio blocos from February 14 to 22, including Bola Preta and Banda de Ipanema.
The roving initiative begins this Saturday (14) and will serve traditional blocos such as Cordão da Bola Preta, Banda de Ipanema, and Carmelitas, as well as children’s parades like “Largo do Machadinho, Mas Não Largo do Suquinho.” Promoters will circulate among revelers distributing items free of charge, with additional support from totems at strategic locations.
Bola Preta will be the first bloco to receive biodegradable glitter, a sustainable innovation applied through portable displays by promoters. Distribution will occur throughout all carnival days, including post-carnival parades by Bloco da Anitta (02/21) and Monobloco (02/22).
Demand grows 30% compared to previous years
According to Higor Amaral, director of Social & Soluções, responsible for creating the initiatives, the estimate is 5,000 doses of sunscreen per promoter/day during an afternoon action. “Compared to previous carnivals, there has been a 30% growth in demand for this type of initiative, which reflects the incorporation of these actions into public and private health and well-being strategies,” says Amaral, holder of the action patents.
The initiative follows strict health safety protocols. Sunscreens are used exclusively in their original packaging, with ANVISA registration, avoiding fractionation or repackaging not permitted by Health authorities.
Ministry of Health guidelines reinforce importance
The Ministry of Health warns that during periods of intense heat and large outdoor gatherings, there is an increase in care for heatstroke and thermal discomfort, reinforcing the importance of preventive measures during carnival.
The actions are also present at carnivals in São Paulo, Salvador, and other Brazilian cities, as well as at parades and technical rehearsals at Marquês de Sapucaí, where chilled drinking water will be distributed at strategic points such as concentration, dispersal areas, and bleachers.
