On March 8, BioParque do Rio reserves 90 minutes of exclusive access for people with autism — free entry and a quieter, sensory-friendly environment.
Before the gates open to the general public, people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) will have the park all to themselves. The latest edition of Sessão Azul (Blue Session) at BioParque do Rio takes place on Sunday, March 8, 2026, from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m., in a quieter setting with reduced crowds and free admission.
How the Blue Session works
The initiative grants exclusive early access before regular opening hours. During this window, the park remains nearly empty and free from the sensory overload of a typical busy day — a meaningful difference for visitors with hypersensitivity.
Each visitor with ASD may bring up to three companions, who pay a half-price ticket of R$ 34.50 each. Proof of diagnosis is required at the ticket office.
Tickets released in time slots
To keep the experience comfortable for everyone, companion tickets will be made available online in three time slots: 8:30 a.m., 9 a.m., and 9:30 a.m., with an initial cap of 300 tickets per slot. This approach prevents crowding and ensures a safer, more predictable visit.
From 10 a.m. onward, BioParque opens normally to all visitors. After that time, people with ASD are still entitled to a half-price ticket and one discounted companion, as provided by Brazilian law.
Inclusion as a standing commitment
The Blue Session is organized in partnership with the Sessão Azul project and is part of BioParque’s ongoing efforts around inclusion, accessibility, and diversity. The date — March 8, International Women’s Day — adds further symbolic weight to the park’s 2026 calendar.
During the exclusive period, the environment remains quieter and less crowded, supporting the well-being of every visitor in attendance.
