Sixty artists, free admission, and a landmark 1921 palace in São Paulo: Brazil’s Radar Arte Contemporânea returns for its most powerful edition yet.
A Cultural Event That Keeps Growing
From March 3 to 7, 2026, the Palacete Stahl — a historic mansion at Rua Piau, 874, in the Higienópolis neighborhood of São Paulo — hosts the fifth edition of Radar Arte Contemporânea. Since its founding in 2022, the annual, itinerant, and free-admission event has become one of the most anticipated fixtures on São Paulo’s contemporary art calendar.
From its debut edition, which welcomed around 700 visitors, Radar has expanded steadily each year. In 2025, the show transformed a historic building on Rua da Consolação and drew approximately 1,600 visitors. For 2026, co-directors Daniela Schiller and Flávia Renault — both visual artists themselves — carry the project forward with renewed energy.
This edition also carries deep personal meaning. The directors continue a vision built together with Mariana Porto, a founding partner and artist who passed away last year.
I believe that love for art, for education, for bringing artists together and nurturing the sector, helping the public look at the works and talk about the art world — that is what led us to create this project, where each year we refine ourselves, trying to learn and evolve to understand where we need to improve. — Daniela Schiller, co-director of Radar Arte Contemporânea
A Palace Full of History
Built in 1921 in an eclectic style with Louis XVI influences, the Palacete Stahl is one of São Paulo’s most historically layered buildings. Originally the residence of Commendatore Gustav Stahl, the first Consul General of the Swedish Crown in Brazil, the palace became the seat of the Empire of Japan in Brazil in 1940 and later housed the Japanese consul.
Listed as a heritage site by CONDEPHAAT in 2005, the building preserves significant diplomatic chapters of São Paulo’s cultural heritage. This March, its storied rooms come alive with contemporary art in a wide range of media and languages.
60 Artists and a Rich Program
The curatorial direction for this edition is led by Renato De Cara, a seasoned figure in the Brazilian art world. Around 60 artists present works spanning diverse techniques and approaches, from established names to emerging voices.
Participating artists include Clara Tibery, Cristina Suzuki, Francisco Porto, Marcelo Brasiliense, Mercedes Lachmann, Tatiane Freitas, Thereza Salazar, and Vivianne Rosa.
Special video projections will mark the opening night — Tuesday, March 3, from 5 to 9 PM — featuring works by artist Orlando Facioli, and the closing night — Saturday, March 7, at 6 PM — with artist Dimitri Lomonaco. On Thursday, March 5, at 7 PM, the Ballet Paraisópolis duo delivers a special live performance.
Talks on Art and Collecting
Radar 2026 also features a series of talks designed to deepen public engagement with contemporary art:
Wednesday, March 4, at 11 AM: consultant, researcher, and professor Alexandre Spinola discusses the art market.
Friday, March 6, at 11:30 AM: curator Renato De Cara leads a conversation on art and collecting.
