In Goiânia, Nomades Dance Group hosts free workshops combining Afro dance and antiracist education as part of the Art Showcase.
The Contemporary Black Dance – Art Showcase runs from April 7 to 16, highlighting Afro-centered works. Supported by the Municipal Culture Law of Goiânia, the event includes performances and free educational activities on April 7, 10 and 11, held in different venues across the city.
The first workshop, featuring Grupo Solo de Dança and its piece “Adobe,” takes place on April 7 at 10 a.m. at UFG’s Faculty of Physical Education and Dance. On April 10, at 9 a.m., Nomades Dance Group presents the creative process behind “Trama” at LABAM. On April 11, at 10 a.m., Núcleo Coletivo 22 leads a session inspired by “Por cima do mar eu vim” at Espaço Águas de Menino.
“The workshops offer immersion in creative processes and reflection on ethnic-racial issues,” says director William Bernardes.
He emphasizes that participants will experience both theory and practice, expanding appreciation for Afro-Brazilian culture. “It’s a space for exchange and awareness through body and art,” adds Bernardes.
The showcases happen from April 14 to 16 at the Centro Cultural UFG, always at 8 p.m. Admission is free with a donation of non-perishable food, and tickets are available via Sympla.
