Fábio Rodrigues and Mônica Menezes join União do Parque Acari as the new second mestre-sala and porta-bandeira couple for Rio Carnival 2027.
União do Parque Acari has taken another step in building its team for the 2027 Rio Carnival. The samba school announced the arrival of Fábio Rodrigues and Mônica Menezes as the new second mestre-sala and porta-bandeira couple — two of the most visually iconic roles in any Rio samba school parade.
Fábio Rodrigues: a career built on the Avenida
Born and raised in Rio de Janeiro, 33-year-old Fábio Rodrigues began his journey as a mestre-sala in 2009 through the renowned Manoel Dionísio training project. He made his Sambadrome debut with União de Vaz Lobo and went on to carry the first pavilion at Acadêmicos do Engenho da Rainha and Favo de Acari.
Fábio also spent five years as part of the second couple at Império da Tijuca and most recently performed as second mestre-sala at Unidos da Ponte. He arrives at Parque Acari with a broad and respected résumé.

Mônica Menezes returns to familiar ground
At 48, Mônica Menezes brings decades of experience as a porta-bandeira at some of Rio’s most celebrated samba schools. Her career includes stints at Acadêmicos do Salgueiro, Arranco do Engenho de Dentro, Engenho da Rainha, and Império da Tijuca. In 2015, she served as first porta-bandeira at Favo de Acari, cementing her reputation in the field.
Her return to the community carries a personal significance, and Mônica made no effort to hide her excitement.
