Former gymnast David Holmes, best known as Daniel Radcliffe’s stunt double in the Harry Potter films, saw his life change forever in 2009 during the filming of “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1”. While rehearsing a stunt involving an explosion, he was pulled violently by a cable and crashed into protective mats, suffering a severe spinal cord injury that left him paralyzed from the neck down.

To tell his story, publisher Rocco releases “The Boy Who Lived”, an emotional memoir written in the first person and featuring a foreword by Daniel Radcliffe. The book offers a rare look behind the scenes of the Harry Potter saga and the world of film stunt work while reflecting on resilience and the search for meaning after life-changing loss.

Holmes recalls his recovery journey and the support of his friends and colleagues, including Emma Watson and Daniel Radcliffe, who stood by him through his most difficult moments. Like the 2023 HBO documentary of the same name, the book highlights Holmes’s optimism and determination in the face of adversity.
