The samba school named Cláudio Roberto, known as Gigante, as new Carnival VP to strengthen its artistic project for 2027.
Alegria de Copacabana officially confirmed through its social media that Cláudio Roberto, known in the samba scene as Gigante, will serve as the new vice president of Carnival for 2027. Last Carnival, he worked both on the sound car and as president of the school’s Composers’ Wing.
At 46, the taxi driver and resident of Santa Teresa began his samba journey in 1997 as a percussionist with Badalo de Santa Teresa. He later joined the Estácio de Sá drum section and led the Canários de Laranjeiras bloco. Invited by Claudinho Tuiuti in 2007, he became a drum director at Paraíso do Tuiuti and joined Lins Imperial in 2008 and 2009.
At Alegria de Copacabana, Gigante has built a multifaceted career as a musician, composer, and performer. Now, as vice president of Carnival, he takes on the mission of strengthening the school’s artistic vision and leading its return to the Marquês de Sapucaí.
“I’m honored by the trust of the board and ready to work for Alegria’s return to Sapucaí,” said Gigante.
