Batuque Coletivo unveils “Sou do Mundo, Sou Minas Gerais” theme honoring Lô Borges for Belo Horizonte Carnival on February 15.
Block celebrates Minas Gerais identity and Clube da Esquina legacy
The Batuque Coletivo parades through Belo Horizonte’s 2026 Carnival on Avenida Brasil, starting at 2 PM with the procession from 3 PM to 7 PM on February 15.
Founder Bruno Simão shares the vision. “The theme captures our belief in a unique Minas that connects globally. Honoring Lô Borges celebrates an artist who elevated our music with sensitivity and innovation,” he says.
His brother Junior Simão, also a leader, emphasizes generational ties. “Carnival brings people, stories, and music together. Lô’s songs touch longtime fans and introduce his legacy to newcomers,” he adds.
Batuque Coletivo’s history
Started in 2013 as a band for social events in BH and Minas interiors, it hit the streets in 2016. The Simão brothers launched the block with strong percussion and popular tunes. Their debut was in 2017.
It fosters special bonds. Last parade, Jorge Neto—Junior’s son—“joined” from his mother Julianne Maciel’s belly. In 2026, he attends his first conscious Carnival. Couples have formed and now play together.
The setup features 150 percussionists, 30 dancers, 10 musicians, 100 security staff, 5 producers, and 30 support crew. In 2025, it drew about 200,000 followers per police estimates.
Lô Borges tribute links Minas to the world
The theme highlights a creative, universal Minas, echoed in Clube da Esquina. Born in Belo Horizonte, Salomão Borges Filho co-wrote its 1972 album and released his iconic “Lô Borges” (“Disco do Tênis”). He passed on November 2, 2025, at 73.
