Bloco Fogueirão debuts its Carnival 2026 theme “Mothers of Samba” with a free rehearsal this Saturday (24), 7pm, in Vasco da Gama.
Salvador’s Bloco Fogueirão Samba de Roda will officially present its 2026 Carnival concept, “Mothers of Samba, Guardians of Ancestral Culture,” during an open, free rehearsal starting at 7pm on Rua Onze de Agosto, in the Vasco da Gama neighborhood. The event offers a first taste of what the group plans to bring to the Osmar circuit (Campo Grande) on Carnival Thursday.
Founder, singer, and songwriter Jorge Fogueirão says the goal is to connect visitors and locals while honoring the community that shaped the bloco. “The goal is to give tourists and people from Salvador a preview of what we’ll take to the Osmar circuit on Carnival Thursday and, since we’re from Onze de Agosto, we also decided to celebrate our community with this open rehearsal,” he says.

Saturday’s show brings together names tied to samba de roda and Salvador’s grassroots scene. Confirmed performances include Jorge Fogueirão, Os Favoritos, Alan Dudu, Dan Mocidade, and Eduardinho Fora da Mídia.
Carnival date and time
After the open rehearsal, the bloco returns on Carnival Thursday, February 12, hitting the traditional Osmar circuit (Campo Grande) at 9pm. The announced lineup includes Jorge Fogueirão, Caboquinho e Juninho Orisun, Dan Mocidade, Nei D’Resenha, and Alan Dudu.

Who is Jorge Fogueirão
Jorge Oliveira dos Santos, known as Jorge Fogueirão, was born in Vasco da Gama in 1974. Active in cultural life since an early age, he works as a composer, singer, Carnival artist, and cultural and music producer, with deep roots in Samba Junino and samba de roda.
In his early teens, he gravitated toward samba. As Samba Junino gained momentum in the 1970s and 1980s across neighborhoods like Engenho Velho de Brotas, Engenho Velho da Federação, Liberdade, and Nordeste de Amaralina, he established himself in the movement as a singer, songwriter, and percussionist.
About Samba Fogueirão
Fogueirão emerged in 1987, fueled by the Samba Junino movement tied to Salvador’s street and square celebrations and religious calendars, which helped define the sound of percussion groups and community musicians. The bloco also highlights a wider cultural lineage: many leaders and founders of Afro-Blocos and Samba groups had direct connections to Samba Junino before the first Afro-Bloco was created.
Over time, Fogueirão expanded its local role and began producing calendar-based events celebrating Afro-Bahian culture. In 2008, it gained legal status to protect the legacy of African ancestry through Samba Junino. In Carnival, it has operated as a bloco since 2008, featuring the attraction “Banda Fogueirão.”
