Bola Preta debuts at Rio Praia Camarote on Champions’ Saturday

On Champions’ Saturday, Cordão da Bola Preta joins Rio Praia Camarote after the last parade, leading a 40-minute “arrastão” finale at Sapucaí.

The first-time appearance is set for 02/21, right after the final samba school leaves the runway. From that point on, the block takes over the closing moments and pulls guests from the grandstand area into the camarote.

For 40 minutes, Rio Praia Camarote becomes a classic Carnival dance hall. Timeless marchinhas, a singalong chorus, and a multigenerational vibe push the celebration to an apotheotic close.

Cordão da Bola Preta at Rio Praia Camarote

This is more than a guest spot—it’s a cultural meeting of comfort and tradition. Founded in 1918, Cordão da Bola Preta is widely seen as Rio’s oldest Carnival block and a symbol of Brazil’s popular festivities.

Over the years, it evolved into a megabloco, drawing massive crowds through Downtown Rio. It is recognized as Historical, Cultural, and Intangible Heritage of the State of Rio de Janeiro and as a remaining reference to the 20th-century cordões tradition.

Shows and samba circles

Alongside the Bola Preta debut, the venue will host nightly “Rodas de Samba.” Headline shows include Xande de Pilares (02/13), Thiago Martins (02/14), Arlindinho and Thiago Soares (02/15), Pixote (02/16), Tiee (02/17) and Belo (02/21).

Rio Praia Camarote experience

Positioned between sectors 8 and 10, Rio Praia Camarote faces the 2nd bateria break area.
