Carnavalescos Raphael Torres and Alexandre Rangel stay on for 2027, with the school’s new theme to be revealed tonight in Rio.
Botafogo Samba Clube officially announced on Tuesday (31) the renewal of art directors Raphael Torres and Alexandre Rangel for the 2027 Rio Carnival. The duo will also unveil the school’s new theme tonight at a celebration held at General Severiano, the school’s headquarters.
Betting on continuity
Torres and Rangel joined Botafogo Samba Clube ahead of the 2026 Carnival — the school’s second year competing on the Marquês de Sapucaí. They led the creation of “O Brasil que floresce em arte” (“The Brazil that blossoms in art”), a tribute to legendary landscape architect Roberto Burle Marx. The school finished ninth in the Série Ouro division.
The renewal reflects a clear commitment to artistic consistency. With over a decade in Rio’s carnival circuit, the duo has worked with schools including Caprichosos de Pilares, Renascer de Jacarepaguá, Acadêmicos do Cubango, and Unidos de Bangu, building a reputation for clean visuals and well-crafted storytelling.
Eyes on the top
Alexandre Rangel expressed enthusiasm about continuing the project and set high ambitions for the coming season.
We are very happy with the renewal and extremely excited for Carnival 2027. It’s an opportunity to continue a project we deeply believe in, now with even more strength and identity. We will work to bring a powerful theme to the Avenue and place Botafogo Samba Clube at the top, where it belongs.
The 2027 theme will be officially announced later today during the event at General Severiano in Rio de Janeiro.
