Rio das Ostras bets on CarnaJazz: free shows at Iriry Lagoon, Feb 14–17, plus daily kids’ programming starting at 4 pm.
While much of Brazil gears up for Carnival with samba, frevo, and axé, Rio das Ostras is taking a different route in 2026. The city hosts the 4th edition of CarnaJazz from February 14 to 17, with all-ages entry and activities beginning at 4 pm each day.
The event is produced by the City Hall of Rio das Ostras, Fundação Rio das Ostras de Cultura, and Azul Produções, sponsored by Seagems with support from Sindicomércio. The concept also reinforces the city’s reputation as the State Capital of Jazz & Blues, shaped over more than two decades by the Rio das Ostras Jazz & Blues Festival.
CarnaJazz and Carnival 2026
CarnaJazz blends classic Rio street-Carnival energy with jazz, blues, and instrumental music. The lineup brings together well-known Rio Carnival ensembles and local artists, using horns, percussion, and dance-ready arrangements to make jazz feel at home in the party atmosphere.
“We built a program that speaks to Carnival’s spirit without losing Rio das Ostras’ musical identity. These acts are deeply connected to Rio’s festivities and can engage different audiences.”
Among the confirmed highlights are Orquestra Voadora, known for its parades and bold horn arrangements; Bloco do Sargento Pimenta, famous for turning Beatles songs into Carnival anthems; and Banda BatukMarley, which blends Brazilian grooves with reggae. Afroribeirinhos adds a strong percussion drive, while Zé Bigode Orchestra moves between samba-jazz and instrumental music, keeping the blues-tinged improvisational spirit alive.
Kids’ activities and venue setup
In 2026, CarnaJazz expands its family focus with a dedicated kids’ opening block every day on the same stage as the main shows. Children’s dance parties led by Baleias Voadoras and Banda Mister Brazuca start at 4 pm, with supervised recreation, face painting, play areas, and a costume contest decided by public voting on stage.
“This is a Carnival designed for families—so parents can bring kids and stay comfortably and safely. The goal is for everyone to feel part of the celebration.”
The covered venue includes a gourmet area featuring local restaurants and craft breweries, plus space for Rio das Ostras artisans. Each day also brings DJs, the kids’ block, and two evening performances aimed at adult audiences, starting at 4 pm, prioritizing comfort for families.

Why Rio das Ostras draws families
Beyond the stage, Rio das Ostras stands out in Brazil’s Lakes Region for outdoor leisure and easy access to nature. Urban waterfront promenades, well-kept squares, light trails, cultural venues, and free events create a holiday experience centered on relaxation and safety.
The city has 28 km of coastline with beaches for different styles of travel, from Itapebussus Beach inside a protected conservation area to Praia do Cemitério, a small bay near downtown known for its sunset views. Costazul remains one of the most popular, with a lively promenade lined with kiosks, bars, and restaurants.
A signature landmark is Praça da Baleia, home to a 20-meter-long humpback whale sculpture in a metal structure, described as the world’s largest tribute to a cetacean. In Carnival season, CarnaJazz fits naturally into this open-air, culture-forward setting.
