The Anita Mantuano Arts Foundation of the State of Rio de Janeiro (Funarj) is boosting Carnival programming in 30 cities across Rio state. The run of performances starts on February 12 and ends on February 17, reaching multiple regions outside the capital’s main circuit.

The actions are delivered through the Giro Cultural program, designed to widen access to culture beyond the metropolitan hub. Funarj says the effort also supports the creative economy by expanding the availability of artistic events in smaller municipalities.

By strengthening its Carnival presence in the interior, Funarj highlights goals tied to diversity, local identity, and cultural inclusion. The foundation says it aims to keep culture circulating across all regions of Rio de Janeiro, generating positive social and economic effects for participating cities.

In other interior areas, the route includes Santa Maria Madalena, Cantagalo, Aperibé, Santo Antônio de Pádua, and Cachoeiras de Macacu. In Médio Paraíba, it also features Vassouras, Valença, Paty do Alferes, Barra do Piraí, and Piraí.

Support extends to Costa Verde and the Metropolitan Region, with actions in Itaguaí, Japeri, São João de Meriti, São Gonçalo, and Paracambi. In Baixadas Litorâneas, programming includes Cabo Frio and Iguaba Grande.

Additional municipalities listed are Barra Mansa, Volta Redonda, Engenheiro Paulo de Frontin, Teresópolis, Petrópolis, Rio Claro, and Levy Gasparian, further expanding the reach of Funarj’s cultural policy across the state.
