Two-time runner-up in Rio’s Série Ouro, Jeferson Carlos returns to lead Império Serrano‘s carnival push toward the top-flight Special Group.
Império Serrano officially announced on Wednesday (18) the renewal of Jeferson Carlos as carnival director for the 2027 season. The decision is part of the school’s broader strategy of keeping its core creative team intact following another strong runner-up finish in the Série Ouro this year.
Consistency as a competitive edge
Carlos first joined Império Serrano in 2023 ahead of the 2024 Carnival, and has since delivered two second-place finishes — a track record that convinced the school’s leadership to double down on continuity. One additional edition saw the school go unscored due to external circumstances.
“It is a great responsibility and, at the same time, a source of immense pride to continue at Império Serrano. Over these years, we have built a deep understanding of the school’s identity and style — and that foundation is essential for the work ahead. Continuity allows us to grow with consistency, fix details, and amplify our strengths. Our focus remains on reaching the Special Group, while honoring the history and greatness of Império.” — Jeferson Carlos, carnival director of Império Serrano
Core team returns for 2027
Several other key figures were also retained. Lead singer Vitor Cunha, designer Renato Esteves, flag-bearer couple Matheus Machado and Maura Luiza, passistas coordinator Caroll Cardoso, and percussion director Felipe Santos will all remain with the school.
With its team stable and its ambitions clear, Império Serrano enters the 2027 cycle as one of the Série Ouro‘s most determined contenders for promotion.
