Credit cards, sunglasses, and wallets are the most forgotten items on Rio’s trains during the festivities. MetrôRio keeps them for 60 days with online recovery.
With over 660,000 daily passengers and 24-hour operations during Carnival 2026, Rio’s subway system sees a spike in lost items. Between street parties, revelers leave behind credit cards, documents, wallets, and sunglasses. The good news? The operator catalogs nearly everything found in stations and trains.
How to recover your lost item
The process is straightforward and can be done online. Access the form on the official website (https://www.metrorio.com.br/fale-conosco/atendimento-ao-usuario), select “Lost and Found,” and fill in the details: station where you believe you lost it, date, time, and detailed description (color, brand, material).
You can also open a report through the website chat or by calling 0800 595 1111. Write down the protocol number and wait for the team to contact you.
If your item is found, pickup happens at the Customer Service Space at Carioca/Centro station, Monday through Friday, 8am to 1pm and 2pm to 5pm (except holidays). Items are kept for up to 60 days. After that, they’re donated to social institutions.
Dropped something on the tracks? Never try to get it yourself
If something falls onto the rails, immediately alert a staff member. Only the operations team can access the tracks, using protective equipment and following safety protocols. The rails are electrified and circulation must be stopped.
For safety reasons, recovery happens outside peak hours. For questions, call the hotline: 0800 595 1111.
