Thousands of revelers who joined the Cordão da Bola Preta parade this Saturday (14) in downtown Rio received a message beyond carnival joy: respect for women. The State Women’s Bureau promoted the “No Means No! Respect the Decision” campaign during the march along the Preta Gil Circuit, distributing informational materials on how to act in cases of harassment or violence.

The leaflets included emergency contacts such as the Rede Mulher app and Central 190, reinforcing the protection network available during the festivities. The action gained visibility with the presence of actress Paolla Oliveira, who spoke with the press and emphasized that fighting harassment must be permanent.

It’s not just during Carnival, it’s in life. The respect we learn cannot be unlearned. We’ve been advancing on this issue; Carnival is a moment of freedom, of breaking down prejudices a bit, but we cannot lose respect, especially for women. No means no. Paolla Oliveira

The president of Cordão da Bola Preta, Pedro Ernesto Marinho, also echoed the message during the parade, reinforcing that celebration must come with awareness.

Carnival is all about love, all good things, but always respecting women, respecting women’s will. Pedro Ernesto Marinho, president of Cordão da Bola Preta

Campaign continues at other street parties

The initiative is not limited to Bola Preta. The campaign will be taken to other partner street parties, such as Empolga às 9, expanding the reach of the harassment prevention message throughout Rio’s Carnival. The strategy aims to create a safe and respectful party environment for all women celebrating in Rio’s streets.
