The Rio samba school Porto da Pedra has confirmed the renewal of the duo, who together bring decades of samba footwork, awards, and a deep bond with the escola. The decision reflects the school’s commitment to continuity and technical excellence in one of the parade’s most expressive segments.

A career built on the avenue floor

Carol Portugal joined Porto da Pedra in 2011 through a samba footwork workshop. She steadily built her name within the school — earning the title of best passista in the Série Ouro in 2022, becoming the wing’s queen in 2024, and now serving as its director.

Renato Metello arrived at the school in 2014 and walked a similar path. He also won best passista in the Série Ouro in 2022, previously held the title of Carnival King, and now enters his second year as wing director alongside Carol.

A second season of shared leadership

The renewal signals the school’s trust in the duo’s work during the previous season. For Carnival 2026, the expectation is to maintain a high technical standard and continue nurturing new passistas within Porto da Pedra.

The passistas wing is one of any samba school’s most iconic features. At Porto da Pedra, the segment carries the weight of energizing the avenue and embodying the school’s identity with every step on the runway.
