Porto da Pedra renews its lead flag-bearing couple. Rodrigo França enters his 21st Carnival; Joyce Santos reaffirms her bond with the community she calls home.
Rio de Janeiro samba school Porto da Pedra has confirmed the renewal of its lead mestre-sala and porta-bandeira — the traditional flag-bearer couple — for Carnival 2027. Rodrigo França and Joyce Santos will once again lead the school’s pavilion, continuing a partnership that has become central to the Tigre de São Gonçalo’s identity.
A Homegrown Star in the Spotlight
Joyce Santos grew up in the Porto da Pedra community, and carrying the school’s flag means something deeply personal to her. Her renewal signals not only artistic confidence but also the school’s commitment to nurturing local talent.
“Representing Porto da Pedra is more than a dream — it’s a commitment to my own story. Having the school’s trust to continue as lead flag-bearer moves me and pushes me to grow even more.” — Joyce Santos, flag-bearer of Porto da Pedra
21 Carnivals and Counting
Rodrigo França is entering his 21st Carnival as the school’s mestre-sala, a milestone that speaks to decades of dedication, artistry, and connection with Porto da Pedra’s fans and traditions.
“This renewal brings even more responsibility. We’ve built a very strong partnership and we keep working to deliver a performance that is increasingly assured, elegant, and true to the school’s essence.” — Rodrigo França, mestre-sala of Porto da Pedra
The decision to keep the duo together reflects Porto da Pedra’s strategic focus on continuity and artistic depth heading into 2027. With two performers who know the school inside out, the pavilion is set to deliver one of the most emotionally resonant performances on the avenue.
