Rio de Janeiro’s Street Carnival officially enters party mode this Friday (13), with one of Brazil’s largest logistical operations. Riotur and Dream Factory have structured the city to receive approximately 6 million people, including residents and tourists, with an estimated economic impact exceeding R$ 5.7 billion.

Strategic sanitation infrastructure

The 2026 Carnival sanitation operation provides 34,000 toilet positions distributed across official circuits. The structure combines chemical toilets, containers, and urinals, plus accessible positions for people with disabilities or reduced mobility. The strategic installation aims to optimize resources, reduce environmental impacts, and organize the flow of revelers throughout the intense programming taking over the city.

100-ton recycling target

Selective collection remains a pillar of the celebration. In 2025, 82.7 tons of recyclable materials were collected. For 2026, the goal is to reach 100 tons throughout pre-Carnival, Carnival, and post-Carnival. The operation involves 120 professionals working at 100 blocks on the official calendar and 24 points of sale in high-traffic areas.

Sorting work takes place before, during, and after parades, ensuring streets are cleared for Comlurb. All collected material is sent to 35 waste-picker cooperatives, within an operation carried out with support from suppliers specialized in circular economy. The initiative reinforces the event’s commitment to environmental practices and income generation in the recycling sector.

Who Sambas Cares campaign protects heritage

The urban fencing plan uses tall wire mesh barriers for historic buildings and monuments, plus protective screens for flower beds and vegetation. The structure includes locations such as the shores of São Conrado, Ipanema and Leblon, Avenida Presidente Antônio Carlos, Praça Santos Dumont in Gávea, Rua General Glicério in Laranjeiras, internal streets of Botafogo, and squares on Ilha do Governador.

The Quem Samba Cuida (Who Sambas Cares) campaign, developed in partnership by Iphan, Riotur, and Dream Factory, raises awareness among revelers about the importance of preserving federally protected cultural assets during the celebration.

Mobility and reveler support

Dream Factory provides essential support to CET-Rio, with 2,500 daily traffic controllers, plus cones, banners, pennants, barriers, and LED panels for traffic guidance. To facilitate access to programming, revelers can use the official Blocos do Rio app, developed by Dream Factory with editorial management by Riotur.

The app features official block programming, filters by date, time, region and block type, maps with location and metro stations, customizable and shareable schedules, plus useful phone numbers and city services. The complete schedule can also be found on the official website www.carnavalderua.rio.
