MetrôRio concludes this Ash Wednesday (Feb 18) at midnight the first stage of its 24-hour operation during Rio’s Carnival. Since the beginning of the festivities, the concessionaire has kept trains running without interruption, totaling 139 consecutive hours of service on the subway system.

Line 2 operates between Pavuna and Botafogo, while Lines 1 and 4 follow the Uruguai-Jardim Oceânico/Barra da Tijuca route. Transfers between Lines 1 and 2 can be made in the shared section between Central do Brasil/Centro and Botafogo stations.

Overnight operation returns this weekend

The final stage of the 24-hour operation will resume at 5 AM on Saturday (Feb 21), when the subway returns to overnight service until 11 PM on Sunday (Feb 22), for the Champions Parade at Marquês de Sapucaí. This stage will add another 42 uninterrupted hours of circulation.

Passenger recommendations

The concessionaire advises customers to use contactless payment methods or purchase and reload their cards in advance to avoid station queues. Another important tip is to use the MetrôRio app, available for Android and iOS, to plan routes and monitor the subway system’s operation in real time.

Customers can also check the “Plan your trip” tool on the concessionaire’s website: https://www.metrorio.com.br/
