Sabrina Sato wears fantasy that blooms after fire at Gaviões

On the early morning of February 15, Sabrina Sato crosses Anhembi wearing a costume inspired by Protea, a flower that rises from ashes and symbolizes the resistance of indigenous peoples.

The Drum Queen of Gaviões da Fiel parades wearing one of the most elaborate costumes of her Carnival trajectory. Named A Flor (The Flower), the outfit positions Sabrina as a symbolic representation of the living forest within the Batuqueiros da Floresta drum corps.

The costume directly dialogues with this year’s theme, “Ancestral Voices for a New Tomorrow,” which dives into the “Dreamtime,” the creation of the forest, the guardians, the ancestors, and the original harmony between humanity and nature.

Flowers that rise from fire

The choice of Protea as inspiration is not casual. One of the oldest flowers on the planet, it blooms where almost everything seems impossible, resists extremes, and flourishes after fire.

Today I step into Anhembi with my Gaviões da Fiel representing the flowers of the forest, living memory of a time when man and nature breathed in the same rhythm. Protea, one of the oldest flowers on the planet, is born where almost everything seems impossible. It resists extremes, blooms after fire, and makes adversity a new beginning. It’s strength that doesn’t shout, it blooms. And it makes me think of indigenous peoples who survived invasions, silencing, attempts at erasure… and remain alive. Rooted. Standing. Sabrina Sato, Drum Queen of Gaviões da Fiel

The costume was designed by Henrique Filho, a stylist recognized for sculptural construction and meticulous finishing. He has established himself as one of the country’s leading creators of Carnival haute couture.

Over more than two decades in Carnival, Sabrina Sato has built a repertoire of images that helped redefine the place of fashion on the avenue. This year’s costume reinforces that legacy by combining aesthetic beauty with symbolic depth.
