Event boosts Carnival creative economy

The Centro Sebrae de Referência do Artesanato Brasileiro (CRAB) partners with the #CarnaStarving community for a swap of costumes, accessories, materials, and Carnival adornments. It takes place this Saturday (Jan 17), from 10am to 4pm. Register at https://crab.sebrae.com.br/programacao/troca-troca-de-carnaval/.

Since 2020, #CarnaStarving has run these swaps to revive unused Carnival items. This fosters sustainability and spins the wheel of creative economy. The event is free. Leftover items go to partner institutions.

CRAB champions Brazilian crafts

Housed in a historic building at Praça Tiradentes in downtown Rio de Janeiro, CRAB promotes national crafts. It hosts exhibitions and activities to elevate handmade products. The space celebrates culture tied to artisanal traditions.

Since opening, it has held 39 major exhibitions. Its collection features 1,900 items like ceramics, wood sculptures, and leatherwork. Standouts include pieces by Zezinha do Vale de Jequitinhonha (MG), João Borges (PI), and Mestre Espedito Seleiro (CE).

Multipurpose areas include a 100-seat auditorium and workshops rooms. Spaces encourage networking and cultural exchange.
