After winning the 2026 Série Ouro title, União de Maricá is renovating its new workshop at Cidade do Samba ahead of Carnaval 2027.
União de Maricá is pushing forward with major renovations at its future workshop inside Cidade do Samba. Having claimed the Série Ouro 2026 championship, the school is now fully restructuring the space to house float production, costume ateliers, rehearsal rooms, and administrative offices — all geared toward its debut in the Grupo Especial at Carnaval 2027.
Early access speeds up construction
Carnival director Mauro Amorim has been on-site every day since construction began. He credits the early access to the space — made possible by Cidade do Samba’s management and fellow school Acadêmicos de Niterói — as a key factor in keeping the project on track.

Fourth floor becomes the creative hub
Costume atelier director Julio Cerqueira is overseeing the transformation of the building’s fourth floor into a full costume production hub. He emphasized the importance of providing proper working conditions for the creative teams.
“One of the spaces we are renovating with great care is the fourth floor, where the ateliers for costume reproduction will operate. It is essential to guarantee the best working conditions for the entire team. Every room designed with purpose
Workshop director Rodrigo Foca outlined the strategic approach guiding the layout decisions. The team is organizing offices, departments, and a dedicated rehearsal area for the mestre-sala and porta-bandeira couples and the opening commission — ensuring each group has the right environment to work.

The school expects to officially move into Cidade do Samba within the coming weeks. In the meantime, all floats from the Série Ouro season have already been dismantled at the previous workshop, ready for the transition to the new space.
