Viradouro Wins the 2026 Estandarte de Ouro

Unidos do Viradouro was named Best Samba School of Carnival 2026 by the prestigious Estandarte de Ouro award, sweeping five categories including Personality of the Year for legendary drum master Mestre Ciça.

A dominant night for the Niterói school

The award, now in its 54th edition, is organized by Brazilian newspapers O GLOBO and Extra. Viradouro’s haul of five prizes in a single night reflects how thoroughly the school captivated both the jury and the crowds at the Marquês de Sapucaí sambadrome. The school paraded on the second night of the Grupo Especial — Monday, February 17 — with the theme “Pra cima, Ciça” (“Up high, Ciça”), a heartfelt tribute to their iconic percussion director.
The theme “Pra cima, Ciça” paid tribute to Viradouro’s legendary drum master, who also received the Personality of the Year award.

How the Estandarte de Ouro works

The Estandarte de Ouro selects one finalist per parade night from the Grupo Especial. On Sunday, February 16, Imperatriz Leopoldinense earned the nod. On Tuesday, Vila Isabel rounded out the group of finalists for this year’s edition.
