The 11-time Oscar winner Ben-Hur returns to UCI screens remastered in 4K for special Easter screenings from April 2 to 5.
More than six decades after its original release, Ben-Hur is back on the big screen. Brazilian cinema chain UCI will screen William Wyler‘s epic classic in a newly remastered 4K version during special Easter sessions from April 2 to 5. Tickets are already on sale.
A Story of Revenge and Redemption in Jerusalem
Set in Jerusalem at the dawn of the first century, the film follows Judah Ben-Hur, a wealthy Jewish merchant whose life is shattered when he reunites with Messala, a childhood friend who returns to the city as a Roman legion commander. What begins as a reunion between old friends quickly turns into an irreversible clash, driven by conflicting political loyalties.
The fallout is devastating. Ben-Hur is unjustly condemned to slavery, setting off a long journey defined by loss, humiliation, and an eventual thirst for vengeance. Along the way, he crosses paths with figures — including Jesus of Nazareth — whose encounters give the narrative a powerful spiritual dimension.
An Oscar Record-Holder and Hollywood Golden Age Icon
Released in 1959, Ben-Hur became one of the greatest triumphs in cinema history, winning 11 Academy Awards — a record it shared for decades with only Titanic (1997) and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King (2003). The production is also credited with saving studio MGM from financial collapse at the time.

The 4K restoration is set to bring back the film’s full visual grandeur, especially in its legendary chariot race — one of the most iconic action sequences ever filmed, shot with hundreds of extras and no digital effects.
