Rio shopping malls host CineMaterna sessions with lower sound, soft lighting, and changing tables for parents and babies up to 18 months.
Created by mothers, the non-profit organization CineMaterna offers a unique movie experience designed for families with babies. The initiative turns going to the cinema into a welcoming, community-oriented moment for parents and caregivers.
Rio de Janeiro sessions
- Kinoplex Shopping Leblon: “Uma Segunda Chance” – March 24, 2 p.m. (10 free tickets)
- Kinoplex Via Parque: “Cara de Um, Focinho de Outro” – March 24, 2 p.m. (5 free tickets)
- Cinesystem Bangu Shopping: “Cara de Um, Focinho de Outro” – March 25, 2 p.m. (10 free tickets)
Each session features baby-changing stations in the theater, stroller parking, gentle air conditioning, reduced sound volume, and soft lighting. Babies who can sit or crawl can enjoy toys on an EVA mat, while CineMaterna volunteers assist and welcome families.
“CineMaterna is more than just a movie—it’s a support network for parents going through early parenthood with empathy and joy.”
After the movie, families are invited to a casual chat, encouraging community bonding and emotional exchange. Some sessions include limited complimentary tickets for families with babies up to 18 months old. Children under 2 enter for free.
Films are chosen by families through online polls available weekly, from Thursday to Sunday, on the CineMaterna website.
