Throughout March and April, five curated film series are crossing different Brazilian states with a shared mission: bringing students and teachers closer to urgent conversations about water, climate, and environmental justice. The initiative is led by Ecofalante Educação, a program that integrates cinema into schools and universities across Brazil.

Five screenings, many communities

Each series was designed in partnership with a different public institution, with its own curated program tailored to the local educational context.

19 films from three countries

The selection brings together 19 productions made between 2011 and 2025, including Brazilian features and short films from Bolivia and Mexico. Topics range from ecosystem conservation and climate emergency to racial justice, gender, and urban life.

Highlights include “A Menina e o Mar” (The Girl and the Sea), directed by Gabriel Mellin and awarded best short film at the 2024 Grande Otelo Brazilian Cinema Award. Also featured is “Aurora — A Rua Que Queria Ser um Rio”, a Brazil/Iceland co-production directed by Radhi Meron that has screened at over 120 international festivals and received more than 20 awards and honorable mentions.

The lineup also includes “Conexão Água” by Flavio Barollo, showcased at the 14th São Paulo International Architecture Biennial; “Chuva” (Rain) by Vanessa Fort, focused on narratives for children and youth; and “Manual das Crianças Huni Kuĩ: Dia de Pesca e de Pescador” by Mari Correa, which champions audiovisual training as a tool for Indigenous cultural preservation.

Cinema is an art form capable of moving us closer to complex and urgent issues, creating space for collective reflection, debate, learning, and imagining other possible worlds.

Free access on Ecofalante Play

All films are freely available to educators on the Ecofalante Play streaming platform (https://play.ecofalante.org.br), which focuses on socio-environmental and human rights cinema for use in classrooms and lecture halls across the country.

The campaign also marks the official launch of Ecofalante Educação as a structured program, funded by Brazil’s Ministry of Culture and the PROMAC — Municipal Cultural Projects Support Program. It is presented by Webmotors and supported by Ecourbis and Loga. Production by Doc & Outras Coisas, co-production by Química Cultural, realized by Ecofalante, the City of São Paulo, and the Federal Government.
