From March 3 to 8, the Centro Cultural São Paulo (CCSP) presents the Mostra Experiência Odradek, a free film series celebrating the release of ODRADEK, the latest feature by Brazilian filmmaker Guilherme de Almeida Prado. The director will appear in person at the opening on March 3 and returns on March 8 for a public conversation after the closing screening.

A Cinematic Experiment Rooted in Kafka

Co-produced by Star Filmes and FJ Produções, ODRADEK premiered at the São Paulo International Film Festival in 2025. Inspired by Franz Kafka‘s enigmatic short story of the same name, the film unfolds as a conceptual love triangle — a series of meticulously composed cinematic tableaux that reward patient, attentive viewers.

Imagine walking into a modern art museum and choosing to sit for five to ten minutes before each work, searching for its details and subtleties. That is ODRADEK — what I call a semiotic-cinematic-conceptual-delirious orgy. Every scene was conceived as a large painting or mural in motion, in which the viewer can patiently seek to understand each detail of image and sound — Guilherme de Almeida Prado, director

An Original Curatorial Vision

The CCSP invited de Almeida Prado to design an original film program pairing ODRADEK with eight titles that shaped its creation. The selection ranges from European art cinema to Japanese horror and Southeast Asian magical realism, spanning six decades of filmmaking.

The curated titles are: 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968), Last Year at Marienbad (1961), India Song (1975), Onibaba (1964), The Milky Way (1969), Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives (2010), Barbarella (1968) and Lisztomania (1975).

I make films primarily to experiment. I seek to create works I would want to watch but that have not yet been made. I have a kind of ‘nostalgia for the future.’ That is why I welcomed the challenge of connecting ODRADEK — perhaps my most enigmatic and experimental film — with titles that, in some way, speak to its creation — Guilherme de Almeida Prado, director
