At Maratona Cultural, an outdoor cinema showcases an Oscar-nominated film and Santa Catarina productions on March 20 and 21.
The iconic Escadaria do Rosário, in downtown Florianópolis, will turn into an open-air cinema during the 12th Maratona Cultural. The Petrobras Cinema Session will offer free screenings of Brazilian films by both acclaimed and emerging directors from Santa Catarina’s vibrant audiovisual scene.
The highlight is the screening of “O Agente Secreto”, directed by Pernambuco filmmaker Kleber Mendonça Filho, nominated for four categories at the 2026 Oscars. It will be shown on March 20 at 8 p.m., just days after the award ceremony. The evening also features a FanfREVO parade and a laser mapping performance by VJ Cria from Balneário Camboriú.
On Saturday, March 21, the event honors Santa Catarina’s cinema with “Um Dia Extraordinário”, directed by Cíntia Domit Bittar, followed by “Livros Restantes”, directed by Márcia Paraíso and starring Denise Fraga. On Sunday morning, a cultural tour will visit “Livros Restantes” filming locations at Barra da Lagoa.
“The goal of the Petrobras Cinema Session is to create a collective cinematic experience in one of the city’s most symbolic spaces,” says curator Marina Argenta.
The Maratona program also features theater, music, and special screenings such as Museus Virtuais: Portinari. All activities are free and open to the public.
