Already seen by over 4 million Brazilians, “The Maid” leads UCI cinemas this week with tickets starting at R$ 11.50 Monday through Wednesday.
Sydney Sweeney thriller takes over the box office
Based on Freida McFadden’s bestselling novel, the thriller follows Millie Calloway (Sydney Sweeney), a young woman with a troubled past who tries to rebuild her life by taking a job at the mansion of wealthy couple Nina (Amanda Seyfried) and Andrew Winchester (Brandon Sklenar). What seems like a fresh start quickly turns into a web of tension and dark secrets.
The Film of the Week promotion runs from February 19 to 25. Half-price tickets are available at R$ 11.50 Monday through Wednesday and R$ 13 Thursday through Sunday.
Oscar® nominees still on screen
UCI is also screening several Oscar®-nominated films. Brazilian standout “I’m Still Here” (O Agente Secreto), directed by Kleber Mendonça Filho, is nominated in four categories — including Best International Feature Film and Best Actor for Wagner Moura. Moura plays Marcelo, a professor who relocates to Recife during Brazil’s military dictatorship and begins to suspect he is being watched.
Also in theaters: “Marty Supreme”, “Hamnet”, and “Avatar: Fire and Ash”. The latter, nominated for Best Visual Effects, is available in UCI’s premium IMAX and XPLUS formats.
New release: “Cold Snap” thriller
The suspense film “O Frio da Morte” opens this week. Recently widowed Barb travels to the remote Lake Hilda to scatter her husband’s ashes, only to be caught off guard by a fierce snowstorm. Seeking shelter, she stumbles upon an isolated cabin — and uncovers a young woman being held captive inside.
