Event starts November 22, bringing parades, themed spaces and experiences that unite Christmas spirit with Brazilian culture.
Only ten days remain until the start of Natal Brasilidade 2025, one of Rio de Janeiro’s largest Christmas celebrations. On Saturday, November 22, the city of Maricá will light up its squares and themed decorations, opening a program that combines the magic of Christmas with Brazil’s cultural richness. At 8 p.m., the first grand parade will take place at the Araçatiba Waterfront.
Themed areas and immersive experiences
The event will feature six main areas, each with its own concept. Parque Nanci will host the “Águas Milagrosas” universe, with a skating rink and interactive activities. At the Araçatiba Waterfront, the focus will be on traditional crafts and local artisanship, honoring indigenous heritage. Praça do Boqueirão will showcase scenery inspired by the region’s flora and fauna.
In Itaipuaçu, the Enchanted Forest will house Santa’s Cottage, while Camburi and Flamengo will host family attractions. Ponta Negra will feature special lighting reflecting on the sea and photo-friendly spots, becoming a highlight for visitors and residents alike.
Grand Christmas Parade and artistic nativity scene
Among the main attractions are the Grand Christmas Parade, with floats and performances inspired by Brazilian culture, and the artistic nativity scene in Araçatiba, both created by Milton Cunha, the project’s artistic director. “Natal Brasilidade celebrates our people, our colors, and our roots, turning Christmas into an emotional and sensory experience,” says Cunha.
Under the general coordination of Antônio Grassi, president of MARÉ (Maricá, Arte, Roteiro e Experiências), the celebration translates the Christmas spirit into tropical colors, popular rhythms, and symbols of cultural diversity. “Beyond a celebration, it boosts the local economy and strengthens Maricá’s creative and touristic identity,” says Grassi.
Schedule and inclusion
The parades will run from November 22 to December 28, every Thursday to Sunday, from 8 p.m. to 9 p.m., along Araçatiba Waterfront and other neighborhoods. Attractions and rides operate until January 6, Thursday to Sunday, from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m. On Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., rides will be reserved exclusively for local public school children.
