After packed screenings, Best Films of the Year reaches its final week at CAIXA Cultural Rio, with tributes and critic-led talks from Feb 18–22.
Presented by the Rio de Janeiro Film Critics Association (ACCRJ), the showcase resumes after Carnival and enters its third and final week (Feb 18–22) at CAIXA Cultural Rio de Janeiro—hosting the event for the first time. The lineup blends award-winning titles, film history highlights, and conversations with critics, strengthening its role in audience development and cultural debate.
Sponsored by CAIXA and Brazil’s Federal Government, tickets remain affordable: R$ 10 (full) and R$ 5 (half-price), sold directly at the CAIXA Cultural Rio box office. Debates, the course, and post-screening talks are free, with ticket pickup required.
Final-week schedule highlights
The program restarts on Wednesday, February 18, at 5:20 pm with “September 5” (94 min | 16+). A talk with an ACCRJ member follows, keeping the conversation between audiences and critics at the center of the event.
Thursday, February 19, focuses on tributes. At 2 pm, “The Truth” (124 min | 16+) honors Brigitte Bardot. At 4:30 pm, “Something’s Gotta Give” (133 min | 14+) pays tribute to Diane Keaton. Post-screening talks feature critics Tatiana Trindade and Ana Carolina Garcia, ACCRJ president.
On Friday, February 20, more icons take the spotlight: “Scarecrow” (112 min | 16+) at 2:30 pm, honoring Gene Hackman, followed by “Butch Cassidy” (110 min | 12+) at 5 pm, a tribute to Robert Redford. The discussion is led by critics Bruno Giacobbo and Gilberto Silva.

The closing screening is on Sunday, February 22, at 2 pm with “O Agente Secreto” (158 min | 16+), voted Best Film of the Year by ACCRJ. Curated by ACCRJ and produced by BLG Entretenimento, Best Films of the Year reinforces its mission to bring audiences closer to essential cinema through programming, critical discussion, and broad access.
