South America’s largest marine aquarium turns nine with a festive celebration and free admission offer until November 30.
On November 10, the AquaRio celebrated its 9th anniversary with a lively birthday event. The party featured themed décor, a large commemorative cake in the lobby, and the participation of the mascot Zé Tubarino, who greeted visitors and posed for photos beside a special anniversary plaque.
Visitors also enjoyed a festive dive show in the main tank, complete with a submerged birthday cake, creating a unique celebration that combined fun, education, and marine conservation.
Special offer for November birthdays
As part of the anniversary celebration, AquaRio is offering free admission for visitors born in November, when accompanied by a paying guest. The promotion is valid until November 30 for tickets purchased exclusively through the official website, with photo ID required upon entry.
Marine conservation and education hub
Since opening, AquaRio has become a landmark for scientific tourism and environmental education in Rio de Janeiro. It houses about 10,000 animals from 350 species across 28 exhibits that recreate diverse marine ecosystems from Brazil and beyond.
The aquarium is also a model of sustainability, powered by more than 2,000 solar panels that generate up to 30% of its monthly energy needs, preventing 320 tons of CO₂ emissions per year. Located in the city’s Port Zone, AquaRio stands as a symbol of urban renewal and a major destination for leisure and research.
Entertainment complex
Spanning 26,000 square meters, the complex also includes the Wax Museum, Mar de Espelhos — the largest mirror installation in Latin America — and the Globo Experience (GEX), an interactive TV park. These attractions are optional and not included in the anniversary promotion.
