AquaRio celebrates Christmas with themed decorations, educational activities and Santa diving into the giant tank.
AquaRio kicks off the holiday season with a program that combines themed décor, environmental conservation actions and fun activities throughout December. Even the iconic whale skeleton at the entrance received a Santa hat, creating a festive and immersive atmosphere for visitors of all ages.
Santa Claus will appear on December 18, 20, 21, 22 and 23 from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. The traditional underwater dive will take place on December 22, 23 and 24 at 10 a.m., and on December 25 at 2 p.m., when AquaRio will open exceptionally at noon. The Christmas tree descent inside the main tank will also occur during Christmas week.
On December 17, the aquarium will host enrichment activities from 10 a.m., reinforcing its commitment to animal welfare. Throughout the month, visitors can also enjoy the “Animals of the Poles” exhibition, which highlights species from polar regions and their adaptations to extreme cold.
Education and conservation
A series of creative and educational workshops will take place during the month. On December 12, the “Paper Toy Whale” activity returns, followed by “Christmas at the Poles” and “Tree of Solidarity,” both running until early January. On December 19, visitors can join recycling workshops using PET bottle caps and participate in “Colorful Soul,” focused on botanic pigments and ocean culture, with a sustainable watercolor as a gift. The program ends on December 26 with another session combining the whale paper toy and recycling workshop.
The program reinforces AquaRio’s identity as a center for learning and leisure, offering immersive experiences and promoting environmental awareness. Visitors can also explore attractions like the Axolotl Kingdom, the Giant Ocean Tank, the Wax Museum and the Mirror Sea, the largest mirror installation in Latin America.
