The Teatro Cidade Cenográfica (Scenic City Theater), in Floriano, Piauí, became the stage for one of Brazil’s most moving religious spectacles this Holy Week. The opening night of the 2026 Passion of Christ on April 3 drew crowds of worshippers and tourists who filled the stands of the country’s second-largest open-air theater. The final performance of this historic edition takes place this Saturday, April 4.

Renewed tradition with original costumes

Free of charge and open to all, the production offered an experience of deep immersion and faith. The audience reacted with visible emotion at every scene. Under the general direction of César Crispim and the organization of Grupo Escalet, the show raised the technical bar with original costumes and carefully researched props to recreate the atmosphere of ancient Judea — an authenticity that left audiences in awe.

National stars alongside local Piauí talent

The production brought together 400 artists on stage. Miguel Rômulo moved the crowd in the role of Jesus, while Silvia Pfeifer delivered a deeply touching performance as Mary. The dramatic power of Eriberto Leão as Pilate, Felipe Roque as Caiaphas, Neusa Borges as Herodias, and Rodrigo Silva as Herod, in sync with the talented local cast from Piauí, kept audiences captivated throughout the two-hour show.

The director’s vision

The mission of telling the greatest story in human history was successfully fulfilled on opening night, generating a profound social and cultural impact on the region.

César Crispim, general director of the 2026 Passion of Christ in Floriano

For the director, the strong opening was the result of hard work that blended tradition and renewal. Now in its 31st edition, the Passion of Christ in Floriano has reaffirmed its role as a cornerstone of religious tourism in Northeast Brazil, bringing generations together in an unforgettable cultural event.
