Brazil’s extended April holiday weekend has a clear destination in downtown Rio. The Centro Cultural Banco do Brasil has lined up a packed, diverse and entirely free schedule — with something for every kind of culture lover.

Museum Night kicks off the weekend with horror and Rita Lee

On Friday, April 17, CCBB’s rotunda hosts the first edition of Museum Night, tied to the film series Mestras do Macabro 2 — Horror Filmmakers Around the World. Singer Ana Cañas headlines with her show Rita Total, a tribute to Brazilian rock icon Rita Lee.

Guests who pick up a ticket for the 7 PM screening of Love Kills (Brazil, 2025), directed by Luiza Shelling Tubaldini, automatically get access to the party. Doors reopen to the general public at 9 PM. Age restriction: 18+.

Suburban jazz and music entrepreneurship on Saturday

On April 18, the Inova BB Música program brings pianist Jefferson Placido and electronic music pioneer DJ Marcelinho da Lua to the Espaço Conceito Banco do Brasil RJ. The duo will perform a pocket show and discuss entrepreneurship in the music industry. Free entry; tickets at bb.com.br/espacoconceito.

The world’s largest Yoshitaka Amano exhibition lands in Rio

The highlight of the holiday is the opening, on April 22, of Yoshitaka Amano – Beyond Fantasy — the world’s largest exhibition dedicated to the Japanese illustrator and designer behind the visual identities of Final Fantasy and Vampire Hunter D.

More than 200 works — spanning illustrations, paintings and fashion magazine art — fill the ground floor and second floor of the CCBB. The show also features 360° immersive projections from the Devaloka series. Curated by Antônio Curti, the exhibition runs through June 22. Free tickets available from April 13.
