The City of God Film Concert premieres on February 28 and March 1 at São Paulo’s Sesc 14 Bis, blending cinema, live music, and synchronization technology. During the screening, the acclaimed film directed by Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund is shown in full while its soundtrack is performed live by 11 musicians.

What makes the event unique is a system that synchronizes not only the instrumental tracks but also the original songs, maintaining the singers’ voices. The result immerses the audience in the vibrant and intense world of Rio’s favelas, capturing the emotional core of the 2002 classic that redefined Brazilian cinema worldwide.

Composers Antonio Pinto and Ed Côrtes themselves take the stage as guest musicians, giving the concert a historical tone. The project is directed by Anselmo Mancini, one of Brazil’s leading names in film concerts, known for live renditions of “Central Station” and “Psycho.”

A celebration of Brazilian culture

According to Mancini, the show highlights the essential role of music in City of God’s storytelling. The performance deepens the film’s dramatic energy and reaffirms its cultural importance. “Each note extends the image — a heartbeat of the story,” he explains.
