The hilarious and thought-provoking musical comedy Menopause Scenes lands in Rio de Janeiro for a short two-week run at Teatro João Caetano. Starring Claudia Raia and directed by Jarbas Homem de Mello, the show playfully explores the lives of women over 50 facing the transitions of this stage.

Written and musically adapted by Anna Toledo and sponsored by Torra, the production has been a major hit — with over 160,000 spectators in 2025 and more than 40,000 in Portugal’s current season. Through humor and empathy, it portrays the “ovarian grief phases,” turning menopause into a topic of laughter and connection.

“With humor, lightness, and courage, we open space to talk about menopause and its taboos,” says Claudia Raia.

The story follows Teresa (Raia), who faces the first symptoms of menopause while juggling her career, marriage, and motherhood. The actress also portrays other women—Laurinha, Gilda, and Isabel—each embodying a different response to this life phase. Jarbas plays multiple roles, from Teresa’s husband to a hairdresser-influencer named Vini Visage.

The musical features clever parodies of 80s and 90s hits like “Like a Virgin” and “I Will Survive,” adding pop nostalgia and female empowerment to its comedic tone.
