“Miúda” portrays African diaspora wisdoms and Afro-indigenous entities, with free performance at Teatro Futuros, Rio de Janeiro.
The dance show draws on multiple wisdoms from African diaspora manifestations, Afro-indigenous symbolic entities, and their reflections in contemporary dance. It will be performed on November 27 at Teatro Futuros, Flamengo.
Produced by Firjan SESI through the Mosaico Rio 2025 grant, “Miúda” is inspired by a traditional point in the Boiadeiros line, emphasizing the power and mystery in small things.
For creator and artistic director Tamires Costa, the show resonates with her life and body, celebrating the potency and beauty of the small and overlooked.
The production, led by eLabore.Kom, also studies beads as symbols of protection, connection, and spiritual power, creating scenic elements and choreography from collective small objects.
The project is part of the “Corpo Tambor” research, begun by Tamires Costa in 2017, exploring ancestry and Afro-Latin dance roots, samba, and urban dance forms, connecting languages and placing the artist’s body at the center.
“Miúda” results from years of research, artistic collaboration, and workshops in Brazil and abroad, highlighting the poetic potential of smallness in movement.
