Inclusive Dance Group Expressar performs at Teatro Real and Women’s Museum in Córdoba after winning state cultural award.
A reference in art and inclusion in Rio de Janeiro’s cultural scene, the Inclusive Dance Group Expressar gave two historic performances in Córdoba, Argentina, this Friday (28) and Saturday (29). Ranked first in the Argentina module of the “Soy Loco Por ti América” grant, promoted by the State Secretariat of Culture and Creative Economy of Rio de Janeiro, the group is part of the official program of the renowned Pulso Urbano Festival.
Their international debut took place on Friday night (28) at the main stage of Teatro Real, one of Argentina’s most prestigious cultural venues. The group presented the show “Relações” (“Relations”) for an audience of around 700 people, exploring human connections through movement while challenging prejudice and celebrating body diversity.
On Saturday (29), the group presents an inclusive dance showcase at the Women’s Museum, addressing the daily lives and struggles of people with disabilities. The event highlights dance as a form of rehabilitation and social interaction, offering the audience immersive experiences that reflect the challenges and strength of living with a disability.
The Brazilian delegation includes four artists who represent the group’s technique and diversity: director and choreographer Thayrine Mesquita; choreographer and wheelchair dancer Daniel Rangel, who is also a Paralympic athlete; dancer Gabriela Calixto, an amputee; and dancer Mayckon Myller. The inclusion of Daniel and Gabriela on the international stage reinforces Expressar’s mission to show that art sees potential, not limitation.
“Performing at Teatro Real in Córdoba is not only an artistic victory but a social and political act. Being ranked first in the ‘Soy Loco Por ti América’ program validates years of work showing that dance belongs to every body. When Daniel and Gabriela step on stage, we are not just performing ‘Relações’; we are rewriting what the audience perceives as ability and beauty. Taking Rio’s culture to Argentina fulfills a collective dream,” said Thayrine Mesquita.
