The exhibition “Geographies of a Compass Body” by Daniel Jorge presents 50 works exploring body, memory, and territory at CAIXA Cultural Rio.
From February 24 to April 19, CAIXA Cultural Rio de Janeiro hosts “Geographies of a Compass Body”, a large-scale exhibition by artist Daniel Jorge, curated by Thais Darzé. The show brings together sculpture, installation, and performance to investigate how the body becomes both geography and gesture.
Using materials such as soapstone, rusted iron, tanned leather, and charred wood, Jorge transforms raw matter into a poetic reflection on existence. “I see my work as a river with its tributaries and sources,” says the artist, describing the exhibition as a continuous flow between memory and transformation.
Curator Thais Darzé points out that the title encapsulates the project’s essence: “It isn’t a Cartesian compass, but a body that perceives, vibrates, and moves through the tensions between territory and lived experience.”
Educational program
The exhibition includes free activities such as a guided visit with the artist on April 10 at 2 p.m., and a talk with Ana Paula Alves Ribeiro (UERJ) and Nathalia Grilo on April 11 at 11 a.m. On April 9 at 2 p.m., Jorge will lead a clay workshop titled “Scarifying,” exploring techniques used in his own practice.
