Exhibition “Demonstra: pela poética def” presents works by artists with disabilities at Centro Cultural Fiesp from December 9.
The exhibition “Demonstra: pela poética def” brings together works by Lua Cavalcante, Nara Rosetto, Guto Oca, Daniel Moraes, Jeff Barbato and João Paulo Racy, proposing an encounter between art, body and reexistence while reaffirming disability as a field of knowledge and invention. On view at Centro Cultural Fiesp from December 9, the show seeks to build a collective territory where artists, educators and researchers with disabilities create from their own experiences.
The curatorship is led by Daniel Moraes, founder of Demonstra, in collaboration with researcher Júlia Ayerbe, with curatorial assistance by Maíra Freitas. The exhibition brings together drawing, photography, object-installations, video performance and publications to explore aesthetic accessibility and present a constellation of bodies and poéticas def that challenge dominant models of representation and belonging.
Beyond inclusion, Demonstra advocates for memory, permanence and creative power within the field of contemporary visual arts.
According to Sesi-SP’s Executive Manager of Culture, Débora Viana, the initiative reinforces the institution’s commitment to cultural access. “At Sesi-SP, we believe in the power of art as a tool for transformation and active listening. With the exhibition Demonstra: pela poética def, we welcome works in different formats created by six artists def. Beyond inclusive action, the exhibition explores the potentials of the def body, offering new perspectives on art and opening paths for transformation.”
Guided by the idea that differences and singularities can become artistic, symbolic and critical material, the exhibition is structured around three curatorial axes. Derritório addresses everyday experiences and disability as bodily displacement. A Monstra explores spiritual and symbolic dimensions of the non-normative body. Manifestu affirms the right to fabulation and self-knowledge as aesthetic and political gestures.
“Demonstra was created in 2021 as a platform for research and dissemination of artistic production by people with disabilities. The idea was to promote aesthetic, critical and institutional accessibility,” explains Daniel Moraes.
The opening takes place between symbolic dates: the International Day of Persons with Disabilities on December 3 and the anniversary of Avenida Paulista on December 8. This synchronicity transforms Centro Cultural Fiesp (Av. Paulista, 1313) into a significant venue where disability is affirmed as a field of aesthetic invention and reexistence.
