Professor Água vs. the King of Waters opens the Sala São Paulo symphonic season on March 29 with live orchestra, ballet and an environmental message.
Estação Motiva Cultural, at the iconic Sala São Paulo, launches its annual Symphonic Concert series with a production that turns environmental urgency into compelling entertainment. Professor Água contra o Rei das Águas takes the stage on March 29, with performances at 10:30 AM and 5 PM, bringing together more than 50 artists in a free-rated show for all generations.
The clash that drives the story
The audience follows the battle between the idealistic Professor Água and the flamboyant King of Waters, a character who embodies the predatory exploitation of natural resources. The story tackles pressing themes — water scarcity, ocean pollution, flooding and sustainability — through humor, fantasy and emotion, never resorting to a preachy or didactic tone.
Regarded as one of the largest ecological musicals ever produced in Brazil, the show was selected by the Osesp Foundation to inaugurate a landmark concert series opening Sala São Paulo to all ages. Running approximately 100 minutes with no age restriction, it positions itself as an immersive, accessible experience.
A repertoire spanning centuries
The soundtrack weaves classical and popular music into a rich mosaic. Highlights include Beethoven’s iconic Ode to Joy, alongside works by Tchaikovsky and Mozart. The show also draws on beloved ballet classics — Swan Lake, The Nutcracker and Giselle — while embracing Brazilian music with the beloved Tico-Tico no Fubá.
The show enchants children and impresses adults. We’ve brought together a repertoire that spans centuries and styles, where Beethoven meets Brazil, and music becomes a universal language to move hearts and awaken awareness.
Maestro, creators and cast
Musical direction and conducting are by Maestro Ricardo Calderoni, one of the few Brazilians to conduct at Carnegie Hall in New York, and founder of the Humanitas Symphony Orchestra — winner of the Folha Prize for Best International Concert in 2015. The script, lyrics and musical concept are by Sabetai Calderoni, who also wrote original songs woven throughout the classical repertoire.
Choreography is by Juliana Gomes, a graduate of the Royal Academy of Dance. The cast features Bruna Guerin, Bruna Caram, Jonathan Faria, Bernardo Berro and Maciel Silva, moving seamlessly between comic and poetic registers.
The compositions and script were structured to balance entertainment and content, allowing audiences of different generations to engage with the story naturally and fluidly.
