With 14,000 spectators and sold-out houses, Thalita Rebouças’ hit musical comedy wraps up with a double session on Sunday, March 29.
The musical Fala Sério, Mãe! – Elas só mudam de endereço (roughly, “Seriously, Mom! – They Just Change Their Address”) is entering its final weekend at the Roxy theater, in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro. Since opening night on January 8, the show has completed 28 performances and welcomed around 14,000 audience members, making it one of the most successful theatrical productions in the city this season.
Last chances to catch the show
The farewell performances take place on Saturday, March 28, at 4:30 PM, and on Sunday, March 29, in a double session: at 2:00 PM — doors open at noon with a lunch menu — and at 4:30 PM, with doors opening at 3:30 PM and a kids’ menu available. These are the last opportunities to experience one of Rio’s most talked-about shows of the year.
From the page to the stage
For the first time in over two decades as a writer, Thalita Rebouças steps onto the stage as an actress, playing Ângela Cristina, an intense, loving, and unforgettable mother. She also co-wrote the script alongside Gustavo Reiz. The production features around 30 performers in a dynamic 80-minute show that blends comedy, live music, and genuine emotion.
“It’s the end of a very successful, very fulfilling season. I didn’t know I could be this happy. Spending Saturdays and Sundays with a full house, bringing art and culture to people, bringing families together — it’s beautiful to witness. Grandmothers, great-grandmothers, mothers, daughters, granddaughters, generations sharing this moment together. I’m so proud of what we built at the Roxy. For many people, Fala Sério, Mãe! was their very first theater experience. And that’s priceless.” — Thalita Rebouças
An immersive, emotional experience
One of the show’s standout features is its digital set design, projected onto a massive 140-square-meter screen developed exclusively for the Roxy. The cinema screen becomes a living backdrop, with constant interaction between cast and audience. The result is an experience that blurs the lines between theater, concert, and film — intimate, visually striking, and genuinely surprising.
Actress Cella Bártholo, who plays the lead character Malu, captures the spirit of the run: “It was a very emotional season. I’ve been working as a singer and actress since I was young, and being on stage in this show, with the trust of this team, is a dream come true. The show has so much humor — it makes people laugh and cry at the same time. And nothing is more gratifying than seeing children with that sparkle in their eyes at the end.”
