After Carnival ends, the festive spirit lives on with Favela Orquestra’s free concert at the Theatro Municipal’s Boulevard.
On March 4 at 5 p.m., Favela Orquestra will bring a vibrant program that transforms sambas, frevos, and marches into symphonic experiences. Led by conductor Vinícius Louzada, the group will merge orchestral tradition with Brazil’s popular rhythms, celebrating cultural diversity through sound.
“We want to show that samba, frevo, and traditional marches are rich enough to shine in symphonic form,” says conductor Vinícius Louzada.
Part of the Boulevard de Portas Abertas series, the concert presents a samba-inspired version of Carlos Gomes’s “O Guarani,” alongside joyful arrangements of Brazilian Carnival classics such as “Cabeleira do Zezé,” “Me dá um dinheiro aí,” and “Mamãe eu quero.”
The repertoire also dives into Bahia’s rhythms with “Tempo de Alegria” and Pernambuco’s frevo tradition with “Vassourinhas,” creating a powerful soundscape that bridges the popular and the symphonic.
Favela Orquestra and the power of inclusion
Formed by 25 musicians, Favela Orquestra is part of the Brazilian Institute of Music and Education (IBME), a social initiative promoting artistic training and cultural inclusion through music. Since its 2025 debut with “Pagode Sinfônico,” the orchestra has stood out for uniting technical excellence with emotional authenticity.
